Tau is isituated in the north-western tip of malaria-free Madikwe - South Africa's fourth biggest game reserve covering 75 000 hectares (185 250 acres). Here, a bewitching complex of towering rocky inselbergs juts from the plains.

Madikwe Game Reserve is one of the few reserves were one can view an unusual variety of fauna. Breeding herds of elephant, white and black rhino, lion, cheetah, spotted & brown hyena, buffalo, leopard, zebra the endangered wild dogs and various antelope species. Impala, springbok, kudu, waterbuck, wildebeest, eland, blesbok, nyala, sable, giraffe, ostrich and warthog are among the magnificent animals that roam the reserve. Madikwe is also home to a bird population of over 250 different species.

The décor and furnishings are Africa-inspired and the rooms are equipped with both air-conditioning and ceiling fans. Thirty rustic thatched chalets are spread out in U-formation on either side of the lodge, offering excellent views of animals approaching the water from the opposite bank. Each chalet has its own wooden deck, which allows one to experience the bush in privacy and is equipped with an en-suite bathroom and open-air shower. Each of the two corner units, on either side (and furthest away from) the lodge, have been linked with the next-door unit by a communal outdoor lounge. These chalets can be utilised for two couples traveling together or for parents with small children sharing the room. The main body of the Lodge is two-leveled and has a comfortable lounge, bar and dinning-room which are semi open-air and overlook the waterhole. A 270 square metre state-of-the-art Convention Centre, accommodating up to 150 delegates is the lodge's newest addition. The lodge is decorated with unusual African artifacts and masks. Large rugs decorate the high-ceilinged foyer and vivid animal-print fabrics brighten the settees in the upside bar.

Set in the magnificent Madikwe Game Reserve, Africa's most impressive wildlife can be admired on the twice daily game drives in open Land Rovers. Private parties can request the exclusive use of a Land Rover for game viewing. In the company of our skilled and knowledgeable guides, you are invited to set off on a fascinating guided walk through the African bush. Your senses are awash with the movements, calls and earthy smells of Africa as you tread in the footsteps of the intrepid explorers of yesteryear. Bird-watching and swimming are relaxing activities.
