John Coppinger was born and raised in Zambia, educated in Zimbabwe and then worked his way round the globe from the diamond mines of South West Africa (now Namibia) to the oilfields of the North Sea and Iran. He returned to Zambia in 1984 to pursue his lifelong dream to work with wildlife. After 12 years of working in the Luangwa Valley he and his wife Carol finally created Remote Africa Safaris in 1995.
Bryan Jackson, a New Zealander by birth, came to Africa for a visit in the seventies and never left. An audiologist by training, he set up his own practice in Durban until he joined the Coppingers in the Luangwa in 1989. He is now a highly regarded guide and well known for his friendly, easy going nature.
Stephen Banda, a local Zambian of the Ngoni tribe has worked in the safari business since 1984. His wildlife knowledge, combined with his insight to local customs and folklore, make him a valuable and popular member of the team.

Rod completed his education in the UK with a degree in Political Science but has chosen a career in the bush. He began guiding in the Luangwa at the age of 17 years in 1989.
Derek Gordon Joined us in 1998. He took early retirement from his career with the bank in order to fulfill a life long dream of working in the bush. Having lived and worked in Zambia since before independence, he is a fount of knowledge on the country.
These men are all dedicated conservationists with a special talent for sharing their love of the bush with others.

Tafika Camp Additional Information |
During the dry season, safaris on foot or open vehicle are offered. The adventurous have the option of a microlight flight, soaring with the eagles!
In February and March River Safaris are offered - a unique combination of canoeing, boating and microlighting. The game is not easy to see, except from the air, but the birdlife is great and the scenery is exceptional. The roads are swamped and our right to remoteness remains undisturbed at this time, as the only access is by river.
