COAST CLIMATE |
The temperate coastal
climate of the Cape west coast has warm to hot dry
summers and cool to cold wet winters with a lot of
wind year round.
Summer: It starts getting hot in about November and
peaks in December, January and February with temperatures
from 77-86°F (25-30°C). Early morning summer
mists are either blown away by the south easter or
burnt off by the sun.
Winter: Rain usually falls between May and August
but the coldest winter months are June, July and August
when the nights are cold.
Spring: Spring flowers emerge from July to September
depending upon the combination of rain and sun.

WEST
COAST - GENERAL INFORMATION |
If your looking for solitude, small coastal settlements
and fishing villages. There is a something for you
along the semi-arid West Coast north of Cape Town.
Here you will find deserted beaches, idyllic for sun
tanning and surfers paradise.
A prime location to visit is the Langebaan lagoon.
An expansive wilderness and wet-land area surround
the lagoon. The area is birding hot spot especially
during the summer months when waders arrive here in
their thousands.
The area forms part of the West Coast National Park
which is a blaze of colour during the spring months
when the perennial flowers bloom in mass.
Saldanha Bay, on the northern side of the lagoon is
a sheltered natural harbour and excellent departure
point for trips to view the pelagic seabirds.

|
|
Other exceptional
bird watching locations along the West Coast are at the Berg
River mouth, Rocher Pan Nature and Lamberts Bay.
The Sandveld vegetation region of the West Coast is the
thinly populated and the main industry by far focuses on
fishing.
