WATERBERG CLIMATE |
The Waterberg region is more elevated than most
other game reserves in South Africa and has a somewhat
cooler climate.
The nearby Welgevonden reserve falls within a summer
rainfall area.
Spectacular thunder and lightening showers dominate
in February and March. At this time it is hot and
humid.
The bush becomes very thick which makes game viewing
more difficult.
April to September is the dry season. This cool
dry winter season consists of bright, clear warm
days.
It can get particularly cold in the mid-winter months
of June to August.

WATERBERG
- GENERAL INFORMATION |
The Waterberg Mountains
extend over about 5 000 square kilometers of stunning
landscape with picturesque valleys – the ideal
location to get away from it all.
The region is rich in archeological history and numerous
artifacts have been found here which date back to Stone
Age period.
A number of up-market lodges and some visits by Nelson
Mandela, together with a touch of good promotion brought
the Welgevonden Game Reserve to people's attention.
It has rapidly become a popular weekend safari destination
out of Johannesburg for the reasons that; it is only
a couple of hours drive north of the International airport;
it has the 'Big Five" animals; it is importantly
Malaria free.
