SOUTHERN
KRUGER CLIMATE |
The
physical position of the southern Kruger region is
clearly subtropical. The temperatures can climb over
40 degrees at the peak of summer. Rainfall averages
at about 500 mm per annum, and falls mainly during
the summer months. It can become hot and humid at
times, especially with the build-up of a thunder shower.
The rainfall period is usually between September and
May.
The weather is much more tolerable in the dry winter
months of June, July and August. The days are mild
and the nights a little cool. This time of the year
is also perfect for animal viewing in the Kruger
National Park, because the shrubs and trees don't
have so many leaves to obstruct the view. Since
it hardly ever rains in winter, the game must come
to the waterholes to drink in the mornings and afternoons
and can easily be observed from the car.

SOUTHERN
KRUGER - GENERAL INFORMATION |
The Southern part of the Kruger Park is a rich habitat
and the congregation point of the wildlife reserves
and the surrounding farmlands.
The Crocodile River which marks the Kruger's Southern
boundary, this region provides a wonderful entry or
exit point to the park.
A range of excellent guest houses and hotels positioned
on the boundary are a good base to explore the Park.
Access from Johannesburg is via scheduled flights
to Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and transfers
can be arranged to Malelane.
Day trips and night drives into the Kruger Park in
open 4x4 vehicles can be booked at the establishments.
