PILANESBERG CLIMATE |
It rains in the summer months of November to March,
with thunder and lightening showers principally
in February and March. Temperatures linger around
28°C.
The dry winter season lasts from April to September.
The weather is pleasant during winter with clear
skies and warm days but cold nights, particularly
in the mid-winter months of June to August.
The winter is the finest time for game viewing when
the foliage dies back.
The animals are more visible and the lack of naturally
occurring water concentrates the animals around
permanent waterholes.

PILANESBERG
- GENERAL INFORMATION |
Adjoining the world famous
Sun City resort, Pilanesberg Game Reserve is an easily
accessed park where visitors can experience the big
five and African wildlife.
This reserve is a little more than two hours drive from
Johannesburg. The picturesque Pilanesberg mountain range
originated as a consequence of a massive volcano that
erupted here millions of years ago.
The panoramic hilly folds extend throughout the park.
This park is residence to excellent populations of Africa's
animals, including the 'Big Five'; elephants, black
and white rhinoceros, buffaloes, lions and leopards
and you will also encounter giraffes, zebras, hippos
and a extensive diversity of antelopes including the
very attractive sable, eland, kudu and gemsbok. |
|
|
There are also cheetahs and hyenas and jackal.
Birdlife is superior with over 300 species and bird enthusiasts
can take delight in the huge walk-through aviary at the Manyane
gate. A 'vulture restaurant' in the reserve has also been created
to save the timid and rare Cape vulture from regional extinction. |
