SOUTH
COAST - GENERAL INFORMATION |
The Natal South Coast is a superb coastline priding
itself with vast
golden sandy beaches, washed by the warm ocean and
coved by a sequence of lagoons and rocky protrusions.
The coastline has been popularly named as the “Hibiscus
Coast” and is a well frequented summer holiday
destination for many South Africans. The area is the
focus of great excitement in the winter months when
huge shoals of sardine move along the coast and attract
a myriad of game and seabirds.
Whales and dolphins move with the fish and become
part of the frenzy as the shoal moves into the shallows.
The coastline presents one of the most exciting and
energetic resort locations with vast opportunities
for sport, outdoor activities, shopping, night life
and fancy restaurants.

World-class scuba diving reefs such as
Protea Bank and Aliwal Shoal offer close encounters with the
docile ragger-tooth sharks and a profusion of reef and game
fish.
The area offers a host of legendary golf
courses in magnificent surroundings.
Moving towards the inland, you will experience
that the landscape changes considerably into undulating countryside,
with deep ravines, turbulent rivers and dense forests. You
will come into contact with rural life of the traditional
Zulus who show their skills in the manufacture of craft items
made from natural local materials. These are available for
sale at an assortment of curio markets along a network of
routes.
The region is well off in natural assets
and is an significant supplier
to the countries agricultural production. The tropical farming
enterprises produce sugar, avocado pears, leeches, pineapples,
bananas, coffee, tea and nuts.
The people of the Natal South Coast are interesting
and culturally diverse. This is a melting pot of African,
Indian and European cultures. The communities are very hospitable
and easy going. |
