NAMAQUALAND
CLIMATE |
Summer: Namaqualand
is hot and dry with an average of 86°F (30°C)
during the
mid-summer months of December to February.
Winter: in the winter the north-westerly wind brings
rain which may fall
between May and September but the coldest months
are June, July and August
where temperatures can drop below 40°F (5°C).
Days are often clear and bright but the wind can
be very chilly.
Spring: the spring flowers emerge in force from
July through to September
but there are no guarantees as to when they will
peak, although late August
is a good bet.

NAMAQUALAND
- GENERAL INFORMATION |
Namaqualand is famous for the beautiful wildflowers
and the tremendous variety of succulents.
It is marvellous to experience the wild flowers at
least once in a lifetime. The mass of flowers which
stretch as far as the eye can see is one of the greatest
shows on earth. This incredible display varies from
year to year depending on the winter rains.
The new Namaqualand National Park near Kamieskroon
will protect the Namaqualand flora with its over 3000
species and also rare animals like the bat-eared fox.
The indigenous people of Namaqualand are the Bushmen
(San). They were nomadic hunters and gatherers. Then
came the Nama (Hottentots) who were nomadic herders.
These early people lived by the seasons.
