MAKALALI
CLIMATE |
The
dry season in the Makalali reserve usually lasts from
April to September. Daytime temperatures are cooler
during these winter months, but the temperatures are
pleasantly warm and slightly cold towards evening.
Traditionally, the best game viewing is in winter
as the vegetation becomes sparse and water is restricted
to rivers and artificial waterholes.
During the summer, the area being sub-tropical, has
hot rainy summers with afternoon showers between October
and March.
The acacia bush and savanna grassland comes to life
after the rains but game becomes harder to see as
numerous waterholes fill up and the foliage becomes
thicker. |

MAKALALI
- GENERAL INFORMATION |
Makalali represents a conservation undertaking to
expand South Africa's green frontier by re-establishing
the ancient traditional wildlife migration routes
that linked the famous Kruger Park in the east to
luxuriant Drakensberg Mountains in the west.
The 30 000 acres of reserve, presents an combination
of an exclusive African safari with a sturdy commitment
to protecting the earth and preserving its wildlife.
In the process lion, cheetah, leopard, and breeding
herds of elephant, rhino, and the rare sable antelope
have all been reintroduced to the wild, making Makalali
home to over one thousand wild animals including four
of Africa's "Big Five" wildlife species.
Access is by scheduled flight from Johannesburg to
either Hoedspruit or Phalaborwa, or by charter flight
to Makalali's private airstrip.
