WINELANDS CLIMATE |
The Winelands are
situated in a Mediterranean climate; with mild wet
winters and warm dry summers and a characteristic
spring and autumn season. The weather can be unpredictable
at times.
The winter north-westerly winds bring rain to the
peninsula from May to September. The coldest winter
months are June, July and August.
Summers start with warm days and get increasingly
hotter until the peak in December, January and February.
The summer south-easterly wind is particularly strong
in the height of summer.
Spring starts in August and Fall in Easter. The
main harvest starts from March.

WINELANDS - GENERAL INFORMATION |
South Africa's premier wine growing district is an
easy drive away from Cape Town. This makes for a wonderful
day trip to enjoy the picturesque surroundings and
fine wines.
Stellenbosch is the centre of the wine industry and
has preserved a rich heritage around wine. This lovely
university town with its unique Cape Dutch architecture
and oak-lined streets is well worth a visit.
The Cape has become famous for wine-making since the
first Dutch started to experiment with grapes as far
back as 1659. The first wines were usually fortified
and usually offered as a treat for the officials.
The great breakthrough in the wine industry came in
1685 when the French Huguenots arrived at the Cape
and began to share their knowledge of wine making.

There are more than 12 wine producing regions in South
Africa, but the Boland district is the most prized and handsome.
The estates are immaculate and their owners have not spared
much in restoring and gracing the properties with all the
stops. The area also offers some of the best cuisine in
South Africa, ranging from conventional Cape Malay dishes
to country and French fare.
