SAFARI TRAVEL: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK

This enormous and magnificent park is one of the most popular public-entry game parks in the world. Its density of permanent game is unrivalled with hundreds of different species: 507 birds, 336 trees, 147 mammals, 114 reptiles, 49 fish and 34 amphibians!

Few visitors leave South Africa without visiting Kruger Park or one of the private reserves along its border. There are now also a few 5 star lodges within private concessions inside Kruger.

Established in 1926, Kruger is one of the oldest and best managed public reserves in Africa. The natural environment is pristine and the conservation and game managment of the park is world renowned.

With greater ecological co-operation across African borders, several countries bordering South Africa have agreed to take down fences bordering Kruger to create a colossal 15,000 square mile Transfronteir Park.

GETTING THERE

Kruger Park is one of the most accessible safari regions in Southern Africa, as it is only an hour's flight from Johannsburg, which is the primary entry point into South Africa, with numerous flights arriving daily from all over the world. If your international flight arrives in the early morning, you can easily connect to the Kruger region, as there are regular flights to Hoedspruit and Nelspruit.

Safari Lodges we recommend in the Kruger Park are:
Hamiltons Tented Camp | Hoyo-Hoyo Tsonga Lodge | Imbali Safari Lodge | Jock Safari Lodge | Pafuri Camp | Singita Lebombo Lodge

Please also review the section on Sabi-Sand private reserves, which border the Kruger National Park.

SOUTH AFRICA > CAPE TOWN | KRUGER PARK | SABI SANDS & TIMBAVATI
