Boutique Hotels
Boutique Hotels are a terminology in Africa which describes intimate, usually luxurious or eccentric hotel environments. Boutique hotels distinguish themselves from larger chain or branded hotels by providing an excellent and tailored level accommodation, services and facilities. Typically boutique hotels are furnished in themed, trendy and/or inspirational styles. Although usually considerably smaller than a conventional hotel (ranging from 3 to 100 guest rooms) boutique hotels are usually fitted with a hi-tech infrastructure, air-conditioning, self-service bars and often cable/pay TV. Guest services are attended to by 24 hour hotel staff. Many boutique hotels have on site dining facilities, and the majority offer bars and lounges which may also be open to the general public. In Africa these hotels mainly cater for discerning leisure travelers, who place a high importance on privacy, luxury and service delivery. Many corporate travelers doing business in the region have also opted to choose boutique hotels for their specialist services and professional hospitality.

Bush/Safari Lodges
The accommodation type in Southern Africa varies from safari hotels and inns to luxury lodges and tented camps. Botswana Lodges and safari camps range from tented sites to permanently tented camps, to reed or brick chalets. There is a wide range of accommodation levels. The general grade which has developed in Botswana categorizes accommodation into Vintage, Classic and Premium Camps. There are a selection of safari-hotels in the Chobe region which cater for budget groups and individuals. Kenya Most safari lodges or hotels tend to be larger establishments with a big room complement. These rondavel or banda-type accommodations usually have public areas with lounges, central dining areas and bars. Tented accommodations vary from super deluxe to standard tents. Luxury mobile safari camps offer discerning guests a private experience away from the main tourist routes. Namibia Lodges and safari camps are usually on private ranches or concessions and offer a range of accommodation opportunities which range from personal safari-type guest farms to the most luxurious desert lodges in the world. Availability can be a problem at times when there is a greater demand for accommodation than what is available. Distances in Namibia are great and the best way to access the best concession areas is by utilizing the smaller air network. South Africa Lodges and safari camps often set on private properties offering a large range of services. Lavish "tented camps" pitched on wooden decks are very popular more authentic bush experience. South Africa has the most luxurious bush properties in Africa. Many of these have been voted as some of the best boutique hotel experiences in the world. Tanzania Advanced bookings highly recommended. There is a great shortage of accommodation opportunities in Tanzania. The safari properties tend to be larger establishments. Accommodation is usually modeled on the Rondavel or banda-type unit hotel layouts, with public areas. Luxurious "tented camps" pitched on concrete bases are also popular. The seasonal tented camps and custom private camps are probably the best way to experience the migration and get away from the tourist route. Zambia Private National Park Concessions offer a selection of high end lodges with luxury chalets or permanent tents. The true specialty in the Zambian safari industry is the walking type experiences on offer. These operators make use of fly camps and smaller tented camps along the route. Zimbabwe Private game reserves offer luxurious accommodation, even while the country is in serious economic times. The National Park concession areas are still operating with small tented camps offering some of the greatest value in the whole safari industry. Zimbabwe guides are still the best in Africa. Access to Lodges and Camps may be difficult at times but the rewards when reaching them.
