Many accommodation establishments have swimming pools or splash pools as
a form of relief and refreshment in the warm African climate. Some of the
high end properties have private pools as an extra luxurious feature to
their lodging. It has become a standard feature at most premium safari lodges
in South Africa.
Swimming pools dress code may be somewhat stricter than on public beaches,
and in indoor pools stricter than outdoor pools. For example, in countries
where women can be topless on the beach, this is often not allowed in
a swimming pool, especially at family style accommodations.
Many hotels and guesthouses have unprotected swimming pools and parents
with children must exercise care with children that are unable to swim.
Some establishments have lifeguards to supervise the guests.
