A casino is a building that accommodates gambling. Customers may gamble by playing slot machines or other games of chance and some skill. Africa strictly regulates gambling because of the impact it has on the general public. A limited number of state controlled licences are awarded to specific casinos. Casinos are often placed near or combined with hotels, restaurants and other vacation attractions to encourage long stays. In Africa many resort type establishments have been modelled around local magic and fantasy themes. Key tourist attractions are the main appeal for visiting the gambling establishments. All the main cities have casinos but resorts like Sun City have built an entire destination out of the opportunity it offered gamblers at a time when it was still prohibited in pre-democratic South Africa. Gambling and entry to casinos is limited to people over the age of 18.
It is illegal for children to enter gambling halls, however many of the
facilities offer child care services and children’s entertainment.
