Samara is situated 55km outside Graaff-Reinet, the fourth oldest town in South Africa, full of charm and history as well as shops, museums, restaurants and friendly people. Just 258km from Port Elizabeth, a city with good transportation links, Samara can be accessed by air, rail and road.

The diverse landscape of Samara is breathtaking, and encompasses four of South Africa’s seven biomes: Grassland, Nama Karoo, Valley Thicket and Savannah. The property has a healthy population of Cheetah, Cape Mountain Zebra, White Rhino, Giraffe, Black Wildebeest, Eland, Kudu, Gemsbok, Springbok, Red Hartebeest and a range of other smaller mammals, including Vervet Monkeys and Meerkats.

With three Lodge Suites within the main lodge building and an additional three Karoo Suites, located in the grounds, Samara caters for families, groups and individuals. The décor is a tasteful fusion of traditional Karoo style and modern African influences. All suites have private en-suite bathrooms and are fully equipped. At the beginning of September 2008 the NEW Samara Spa opens! The spa is a custom built Karoo style cottage overlooking a tranquil waterhole where birdlife abounds. We also have an open boma, a swimming pool and a tennis court. Internet connections are available in all suites for guests wishing to use their own laptop. Alternatively, access is available in the lodge, along with satellite TV, Internet and fax facilities.

Early morning and late afternoon game drives, with the evening drive ending in a spot lit search for the elusive Aardvark. Guided bush walks and visits to sites of historical and paleontological interest. Professional, local rangers guide all our activities. Children under the age of eight may not accompany their parents on game drives unless the family has exclusive use of the vehicle and, under the guide’s supervision, ensures all safety instructions are observed.

Children under 3 years = free of charge.
Children 3-8 years = 25% adult rate
Children 8-14 years = pay 50% adult rate. The rates above are applicable when sharing with adults. Children over 14 years old pay full adult rate.
