Vuyatela is everything one would
expect from a 5 star bush lodge - and everything
one does not expect!
Owners Jurie and Pippa and Campbell and Pendre have
created a truly delightful lodge, breaking from
the mould of traditional bush lodge style and decor
by embracing indigineous building design elements
and fusing it with quirky and refreshing artwork,
furnishings and finishes.
We found this truly exhilarating and refreshing
- from the magnificent chandeliers made of empty
coke bottles, to the intricate mosaic work in the
bathrooms and outdoor shower, to the eclectic mix
of African art and artefacts - top marks for creating
a bush lodge which is dramatic, earthy, vibrant
and fun, while offering sublime comfort in spacious
suites, each with their own grand deck and plunge
pool overlooking a spectacular dam.
In keeping with the Djuma ethos, the guides and
trackers are highly skilled individuals with a deep
appreciation and knowledge of the bush and sensitive
to the needs and requirements of their guests -
whether it be birding, insects, plants or the big
Five. Top marks to our guide Chris.
I had one of the best cheetah sightings ever at
Vuyatela, tracking through the bush and staying
with the magnificent creature for a couple of hours,
but we also got to see the BIg Five and many other
animals. But most of all, I learned a bit more about
the wilds, the harmony and endless cycles of nature
and the timeless beauty and intrigue of Africa.
