I had the opportunity of visiting
Pakamisa Lodge in August. I flew from Rand Airport
via charter flight to Pongola where we where met
by Isabella von Stepski the owner of the lodge,
and driven through the town of Pongola and valley
up into the Pakamisa Mountains.
The lodge is situated on the top of the mountains
with a stunning view down into the valley and of
the Pongola River. Being up on the mountain the
lodge is well situated for a cool breeze to keep
you refreshed when the temperature rises!
Pakamisa has 8 rooms - 4 adjoining in mirror image
layout, these rooms are incredible in size with
an entrance hall with cupboard and hanging space,
the bathroom leading off with double vanity unit,
bath, toilet and shower. Walking from the hallway
into the bedroom and down a few steps into a lounge
area which leads through sliding doors onto a verandah
with outside sitting area. These rooms are incredibly
spacious and ample for a family if children where
wanting to share with the parents.
After a refreshing lunch we tried our hand at archery,
luckily not losing any arrows or maiming anyone
in the process! We then headed out on the afternoon
game drive, I was dropped at the stables for an
evening ride (a highlight of the trip for myself).
Isabella is an Arabian expert and has relocated
her stud farm from Spain and is continuing her breeding
of Arabians at Pakamisa. Returning later to the
lodge and freshening up before joining everyone
in the bar before dinner. It is well worth doing
some exercise at Pakamisa to enjoy the meals - their
food is stupendous. |
