Kanana camp was my last camp
of my trip and it couldn’t have ended more
perfectly. Air transfer from Footsteps to Kanana,
as we flew onto the air strip we couldn’t
see the vehicle to meet us, all that was there were
6 giraffes walking down the air strip looking as
though they had somewhere to go eventually. No vehicle
– he was coming wasn’t he – assurance
from our pilot couldn’t convince me until
in the distance I saw dust it was him, our camp
manager we were saved! Dramatic yes I’m like
that.
We drove a short distance to the camp and the welcoming
committee stood and looked at us in confusion, who
were we – the local elephant herd had decided
that they would host our arrival in true African
fashion, the young ones being so cute and excited
to see us. The herd rambled off into the bush no
hurry plenty of time. Kanana welcome is of calmest
and peace. The camp appears to run itself, everything
seems unrushed yet orderly, clean and comfortable,
and it you need anything, someone immediately appears
– how did they know and do that? Again small
camp 8 luxury tented, five to be upgraded and raised
which will be done when the camp closes. At all
the camps visited, emphasis is on comfort, service,
cleanliness and quality. I can truly say that they
surpass all of these qualities.
Did I enjoy my trip – you bet, I could not
have been hosted any better. I traveled on my own
and never felt unsecure or worried about anything.
I was looked after and made quite naturally to be
part of everything. October is one of the hottest
months in Botswana, and I would not dispute that
at all.
Would I go back – yes most definitely I fell
in love with Botswana, the people and places. I
really did feel that if my circumstances changed,
I could settle in Botswana live this life style
of integrity and peacefulness and be rewarded with
much more, yes absolutely.
