Djuma is a delightful collection
of thatched suites set in magnificent gardens and
run by truly caring, professional staff.
The ethos at Djuma and its more luxurious sister,
Vuyatela, is on giving guests a holistic experience
- in other words, a wildlife safari is more than
just racing around in a luxury 4x4 open jeep looking
for the Big Five, although we did get to experience
that as well, of course.
At Djuma, you go away with a deeper realisation
that all of nature is in perfect harmony and balance,
and that the little creatures, insects, bugs and
reptiles are as interesting and intriguing and as
intergral and important a part of the wilds as are
the Big Five!
Guides are also highly knowledgeable and well skilled
in spotting and identifying mammals, birds and reptiles,
as well as in giving guests time to savour the sights
and sounds of the bush over leisurly sundowners
in a beautiful setting.
The rooms at Djuma are romantic and intimate, with
interesting fabrics, good finishes and set off with
fascinating mosaic artwork by co-owner, Pippa Moolman,
whose personal flair for the funky and quirky really
came together splendidly at Vuyatela.
We found the food at Djuma really superb - well
presented, wholesome, tasty and abundant. Although
guests can retreat to a quiet corner of their own
for their meals, most prefer to sit at a splendidly
set communal table and share the day's encounters
and events with each other and the camp managers. |
