I definitely drew the long straw
when I had the opportunity of visiting Botswana
in October – four glorious days of peace and
adventure. I arrived in Maun late afternoon; the
heat I could tell was not going to let up.
I waited in the small departure lounge which
I’m sure doubles as the arrival lounge too,
for my pilot to take me to my first camp. A very
red faced pilot raced up to me and told me he
was ready – how did he know it was me he
suppose to take – I dutifully followed him
he looked as though he knew what he was doing,
and clambered aboard my “private”
air craft.
As we flew over the Okavango Delta I couldn’t
wait to see animals, I was looking out for them
with zealous, then it suddenly hit me that the
ground below was so flat, no hills no mountains,
no tall buildings, no complexes no nothing just
trees, bushes tracks and dry river beds.
I was drawn into the serenity of being part of
a very special place, which in the end I fell
in love with.
