Having visited Bartholomeus Klip
for a morning brunch and game drive site inspection,
I was looking forward to spending the night and
really enjoying this incredible establishment.
Driving from the winelands of Wellington and then
by wheat fields you approach the reserve/farm and
wonder what awaits you in this incredible open landscape,
it is a surprise when you approach the farmhouse
which is surrounded by oak trees and beautiful gardens.
On arrival we where met and shown to our rooms,
we had arrived just in time for high tea and it
is well worth not having lunch before you come!
An afternoon game drive through the reserve viewing
Springbok, Ostriches, Bontebok, Wildebeest, gemsbok,
red hartebeest and the blue cranes which where in
flocks! The farm is also well know for their Quagga
breeding project; geometric tortoise and disease
free Cape Buffalo breeding project. We returned
back to the farmhouse for evening drinks and to
freshen up before dinner.
The next morning we where taken on a drive down
to the Buffalo pens where we learnt about the breeding
project, before heading out into the reserve and
learning more about the natural bush and the wildlife.
An afternoon of relaxation lying on the sun lounges
and refreshing ourselves in the pool, followed by
high tea and a walk around the farm.
We where lucky on the morning of our departure to
witness the birth of Bonzo, a male buffalo calf.
We left our breakfast early to drive down to the
buffalo pens and see Bonzo take his first steps!
Bartholomeus Klip was everything I remembered and
even better! From their staff hospitality and food
which is exceptional to the setting, definitely
a must for anyone wanting to have a few days of
complete peace and relaxation. |
