·· Kruger Private Safari:
The Beautiful Bushveld
THE private reserves around Kruger National Park are home to many of Africa's finest safari lodges, where service, accommodation and the wildlife experience are superlative.
This Kruger is one of the oldest conservation regions in Africa and the private reserves on the western border have all removed their fences to allow unrestricted movement of wildlife between concession areas and the national park, making the entire region an area of pristine wilderness.
The most famous of the private parks is the Sabi Sand reserve, home to lodges such as Mala Mala, Singita, Londolozi and Sabi Sabi - which are synonymous with providing guests with a superb wildlife safari experience. There are many other lodges in this park, each operating in its own concession area and catering to different budgets.
North of Sabi Sand is the Timbavati game reserve, another Big Five area with famous safari camps such as Tanda Tula, Thornybush, Royal Malewane and Kings Camp. There are a number of adjoining reserves, including Kapama and Makalali.
A typical day on safari will include morning and late afternoon game drives, walks, fine meals and drinks, night-time game drives, stargazing and sweet slumber beneath crisp linens.
Getting to these safari destinations is easy, with scheduled air flights from Johannesburg and Cape to Kruger International and Hoedspruit.
