Winters in southern Africa extend from mid May to early August - by
the experience of the northern hemisphere African winters are extremely

Cape Town is probably the most extreme climate that you will encounter. It is however also unique in Africa because it has a Mediterranean weather system, unlike the rest of the continent.
Wildlife enthusiasts generally favour the dry season when temperatures are moderate to high. Game activities are generally limited by the availability of fresh grazing and browsing resources. Rains usually scatter browsers and their persistent predators; dry periods predictably concentrate animals around residual water sources.
Migrant birds concentrate their activities in southern Africa during the summer months that usually last from October to March.
