·· Namibia Safari:
Considerations when planning a tour to Etosha, Namib Desert, Skeleton Coast & other safari destinations in Namibia.
NAMIBIA is the desert safari destination of Africa - a country of stark and beautiful landscapes, endless vistas, dazzling colors and friendly people.
HIGHLIGHTS & ATTRACTIONSNamibia is an intriguing safari and vacation destination and the country offers a great diversity of some of the most beautiful landscapes in Africa. From the towering ochre and brick red dunes of the Namib and Kalahari deserts, to the vast salt pan expanses of Etosha national park or along the desolate and hauntingly beautiful Skeleton Coast, this is a place for travelers looking for something different and unusual in Africa.
For first time safari travelers whose main focus is animal viewing, we recommend the more abundant wildlife regions in Botswana or South Africa. However, those looking for dramatic landscapes, contrasts, wide open spaces, solitude and big skies, then Namibia is the place for you.
Etosha is the country's main safari reserve and with its shimmering mirages over the glistening white salt pans, it certainly is one of the most unique game parks in Africa. Damaraland boasts fascinating rock formations and scenery and is home to hardy desert elephant and black rhino. No trip to Namibia would be complete without a visit to the Namib desert, with its towering dunes and ever changing landscapes.
GETTING THERE
The capital of Windhoek is linked by air to Frankfurt as there are strong historical ties with Germany. However, most travelers will access Namibia after arriving in Johannesburg, South Africa, which has many daily flights to Windhoek. Namibia is vast, so the best way to discover the country is by light aircraft between regions. If time permits, then self drive is an option, although a 4x4 rental is recommended.
POLITICAL & ECONOMIC CONSIDERATIONS
With a population of only 2 million in a country larger than France or Texas, a stable economy and political democracy, Namibia is a safe destination. The currency is linked to the South African rand.
