The choice of the correct camera equipment and film or digital chip will determine the quality of your photographs on the trip. For good photography of birds and animals, a good digital SLR camera and telephoto lens is necessary. The minimum recommended size is 200 mm and a zoom lens can be extremely useful on safari.
Consideration should be given before travelling with any lens bigger than
400 mm as most interesting shots are taken using hand held equipment. If
using a small digital camera, it is best to have at least a 6x optical zoom.
You should also have at least one spare 2GB chip, or travel with a laptop
to download. A spare battery is also recommended.
We do not recommend using film, as this can be very difficult to obtain
in the digital era. If you do use film, bring enough of your own to avoid
disappointment at running out of stock.
