Kafue has an excellent variety of animal and bird species, it is
a top safari destination. Kafue is rated as
one of the best parks in Africa
for its incredible variety of antelope, including the magnificent Sable, Roan,
Hartebeest and Eland. There are also Wildebeest, Impala, Puku, Oribi, Sitatunga,
Waterbuck and Red Lechwe
in their thousands.
Kafue is also home to many large prides of lion, which have adapted
well to climbing trees for shelter and
protection from the heat. There are
also leopard, cheetah, wild dog, hippos in abundance and a large elephant population.
Birding is exceptional, with over 400 species recorded, including goliath herons, fish eagle and wattled cranes
among the larger birds.
Fishing – one of the activities available at Kafue camps - is excellent,
with bream, barbel and pike in abundance.
