There are around 340 species of birds here, which makes for great bird-watching. There are also 63 species of mammals, including elephant, kudu and gerenuk. Unlike many national parks in the region, this is an area where you can walk for hours through the wilderness, and can choose to be guided by an expert local ranger, who will bring the landscape to life.
|
There are views of both Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru from camp, and it is within a short distance of the Ngare Nairobi River. There are eight tastefully decorated tents with thatched ceilings, their own ensuite bathroom. Twenty-four hour hot water is available, and water is collected from rainwater. Compost toilets also minimise the impact on the local ecosystem. Solar electricity is available, but candlelight and kerosene lanterns are used to reduce the camp's impact on the environment - and create a lovely mood! The food you will eat is grown locally, either on the ranch itself or is purchased from local community members, and the camp tries to employ as many local people as possible.
