Mvuu Wilderness Lodge Location | | |
The 580 000 square kilometres Liwonde National Park is situated in the south of Malawi and is Malawi's premier wildlife reserve. Liwonde incorporates the huge and scenic Shire River as well as quiet backwaters and lagoons, marshes, open savanna country, woodland and hills. As a result of the wide variety of habitats, there is a great diversity of plant, animal and birdlife present. The birdlife is outstanding - it is possibly the best birding location in central and southern Africa. The record for a 2 night stay is 266 different species.

Mvuu Wilderness Lodge Facilities |
Discreetly tucked away into thick riverine vegetation, each tent has its own private view of the palm fringed lagoon which abounds with exciting birdlife. The main dining room/pub/lounge area is raised under thatch, overlooking the Shire River, where snoozing hippos and basking crocodiles are often to be viewed. Tented rooms offer luxury en-suite facilities for only 16 persons, including a unique stone and thatch honeymoon suite. Enjoy meals on the deck or under thatch and relax at the pool which is made of natural rock and is surrounded by a deck of frangrant Mulanje cedar. The whole camp boasts a backdrop of indigenous fever trees.

Mvuu Wilderness Lodge Additional Information |
The Mvuu Hiking Trail is available for those who enjoy walking in game reserves. Two nights walking and camping out in remote areas of the Liwonde National Park are a highlight - but must be booked in advance.
Being fortunate to be the sole lodge in the park, we can offer boat trips and game drives both during the day and at night. Night boat trips are a speciality, where with the help of spotlights one can encounter the huge crocodiles of the Shire up close, as well as look for two of the parks 'special' birds, the White-backed Night Heron and Pel's Fishing Owl.
Walks with qualified scouts are another recommended activity.
We do really great bicycle trips from the boundary of Liwonde to the local villages, giving one a superb cultural experience.
