It was here the persecuted French Protestants, among them experienced winemakers, chose to settle when they sought refuge in South Africa in the late 1600s. The place was called 'Coin Francais', the French corner; in Dutch, Fransch Hoek. Today, the French influence in Franschhoek valley is still strong. It can be seen in the picturesque architecture of the small village, and tasted in the area’s wonderful cuisine and wines, the settlers’ greatest legacy.

Mont Rochelle Hotel invites you to relax in one of the luxurious bedrooms and suites, most of which offer spectacular views across the valleys and vines of Franschhoek. Each of the 16 bedrooms and 6 suites is individually decorated, creating a unique ambiance. En suite bathrooms, telephones, televisions, safes, under-floor heating, air-conditioning and in-room refreshment facilities are amongst the facilities of each room. The Hotel spans over three wings, giving you the privacy you would expect from a Boutique Hotel. Guests arrive in the Garden Wing of the Hotel which houses the Reception, Colonial Cigar Bar, eight Luxury Bedrooms, one Junior Suite and Business Centre. In the Manor House are the Fine Dining Restaurant as well as two Junior Suites, one Deluxe Suite and two Luxury Bedrooms. Down the stairs from the Restaurant one is surprised to find a third wing, the Vineyard Wing, where each of the Luxury bedrooms has its own private garden, as well as two Deluxe Suites with private plunge pools. A second restaurant serving Al Fresco meals, Wellness Facility, Sauna, Swimming Pool, Pool Bar and Gymnasium can also be found on the premises.

Mont Rochelle offers in-house guests the opportunity to pre-book a private wine tasting or private Cellar Tour with the Wine Maker or an excursion through the vineyard with the Farm Manager. You may wish to follow one of the trails through the vines for an invigorating country walk or a gentle stroll. Mountain bikes are available at the Hotel reception. Alternately, if you are looking for peace and tranquillity, take a stroll down to the dam, make yourself comfortable under the willow trees, and enjoy a good book or a Winelands Picnic. Mont Rochelle Equestrian Centre offers guests the opportunity to enjoy a three hour Wine Tasting tour on horse back. If that's more than you bargained for, hourly rides can also be arranged. The focus at Mont Rochelle Hotel is providing guests the ultimate Gourmet Winelands experience.
