Mkhaya Attractions
What started as an attempt to save the native Nguni cattle as a pure breed, expanded to providing for endangered species, and then onto multiple landuse based on sustainable conservation principles. Today, as the Kingdom's recognised "Refuge for Endangered Species", Mkhaya has seen the total re-stocking of Swaziland's legendary wildlife heritage. Black Rhino, Elephant, White Rhino, Buffalo, Giraffe, Hippo, Crocodile, Ostrich, Tsessebe, Roan and Sable Antelope can be seen at closer quarters than anywhere else in the wild. Positioned in the frontline war to save the Rhino, Mkhaya employs probably the most intensive Rhino and Elephant security programme in Africa. Your visit helps directly to support these efforts.

Mkhaya Facilities
Laid out along the banks of a dry river bed, is Stone Camp where the vegetation comprises of tall fig, leadwood, sausage and knobthorn trees, with a lush under-canopy giving it a year-round subtropical appearance. The camp is known as 'Stone Camp' due to the dolerite rocks used in the construction of the semi-open stone and thatch cottages. This unique style accommodation in its primeval setting offers visitors the opportunity of really getting back to nature. There are no windows or doors and no electric in the cottages, but they have hot water in their en-suite showers. All twelve units are laid out individually in the riverine forest overlooking the dry riverbed, linked by central and branch pathways surfaced with riversand and lit at night by paraffin lanterns as the camp has no electricity. Each unit is totally private due to the thick vegetation, though some units are close enough together for use as an extended family unit. The entire internal structure of these cottages, although veilded for privacy, is open to the external bush, which gives visitros a totally unique, true bush experience. Guided by strong principles and a philosophy which brings you closer to nature, Mkhaya offers all inclusive accommodation and the rare opportunity of enjoying all that is Africa; the sights; the sounds; the tastes; the smells and the total unexpectedness of life in the bush. Hosted by Swazi rangers and the friendly camp staff, you will learn not only about the delicate balance of nature, but also about people. All meals are cooked Swazi -style on the open fire, and with little persuasion your hosts will demonstrate their ingrained musical talent, their traditional Sibhaca dancing and the rich cultural history which is entwined in their everyday lives.
