Mahale Mountain Camp Attractions
Minimal number of tourists, untouched wilderness, glamour in the wild, ottoman-style tents, glorious sunsets, exotic sundowners at sunset and brandy after dinner, chimpanzees, loads of game, walking safaris and sleeping under the stars. This is pure safari bliss.

Mahale Mountain Camp Facilities
Mahale is heaven on earth. The air is scented with jasmine, the forest rich, the water before you, clear as gin. There are no roads for sixty miles. Enjoy dhow cruises on the lake, plus walks into the mountains, which rise to 8000 ft, lush with evergreen semi-tropical forest. The chimps you see are habituated to human presence, their individual history known by Japanese researchers who have studied them for 25 years. The camp ambience is incredibly chic. Within its six expansive ottoman-styled bedroom tents sumptuous furnishings abound, even the pillows are stuffed with real feathers. Fresh sushi and cocktails are served on the shores of the lake at sunset and cognac in the beautiful dining tent after dinner. The unique Mahale Mountain Camp in the middle of Africa is full of style, exclusivity and fun. There is however more to Mahale Mountain Camp than the chimps - Lake Tanganyika, the world's longest lake (468 miles) and the second deepest (approx. 4500ft), shimmers in front of the camp. You may swim in its inviting crystal clear waters, go fishing (the lake has a huge stock of over 350 species of fish, half of them unique to the lake) or sail on the Isabella, a 46- foot traditional Arab dhow.

Mahale Mountain Camp Additional Information
A full day can be spent with the chimpanzees and the excellent guides will reveal the intimate secrets of one of man's closet relatives. The guides know the chimp families and their members profoundly and will fill your days with wonderful stories of a particular individual. Visitors can approach the chimps to within a few feet as they feed, groom and wrestle across the forest floor. The encounter is truly fascinating. Other activities at this haven include bird watching and fishing trips on the lake.
