African wildlife is being threatened – human encroachment, poaching and development have all taken their toll. Game ranching sets out to answer this challenge by providing a sanctuary for animals in their natural environment so that they can live and breed in safety, providing a renewable resource for the benefit of future generations.
The habitat is original Miombo or Mungu woodland with open areas reverting to Acacia or Bauhenia. This, along with two large dams, supports a prolific bird population – over 300 species have been identified including woodland, wetland and grassland species, many raptors and a range of migrants. Bird calls in the early morning and evening are a delight, particularly Heuglin’s Robin, Turaco, Cuckoo, Guinea Fowl and Francolin.

The Lodge is designed in traditional style with thatched chalets, one of which accommodates the lounge, bar, dining area and modern kitchen. A recent addition is a new conference and function room built in the same style. Set in very attractive parkland with a sparkling pool, the complex is designed for comfort and relaxation with particular attention to excellent cuisine and service.
Of the twelve chalets, six deluxe rooms are en-suite open plan with double bedroom, lounge, fax phone and fully equipped bathroom. The other six standard chalets have two double bedrooms, each with shower bathrooms and a common lounge with a telephone – ideal for families. All chalets have fitted carpets, tiled bathrooms, posture-paedic mattresses and are furnished to a high standard. Each chalet is mosquito proofed with gauze on all windows and nets on every bed.
The area is renowned for its underground aquifers yielding crystal clear spring-like water. The lodge is served by sealed boreholes, which supply safe drinking water which is tested regularly. All bathroom water is connected through a softener for added comfort.
Local materials have been used throughout – burnt handmade bricks, thatched roofing and Mukwa joinery and flooring. The main building is also thatched with dormer windows giving a spectacular effect both internally and externally.
