Grootbos (meaning 'large forest) is named after the white milkwoods which are indigenous to the area and form an extensive forest on the reserve. This forest is the largest of its kind in the world, providing a home for trees that are hundreds of years old, and has been classified as one of the world's six "floral kingdoms". Grootbos has an amazing diversity of fynbos vegetation, with over 715 plant species, flowering throughout the year. You are likely to see many of the 107 bird species recorded on the reserve, as well as many other animals. We have an enthusiastic resident botanist, ornithologist, marine biologist and horticulturist, who will help any visitor appreciate the many unique features of this area.

Garden Lodge: Garden Lodge with its tranquil gardens, meandering walkways and charming ponds has a more homely atmosphere with traditional decoration. The lodge is perfect for families and accepts children of all ages, has 11 spacious luxury suites, Last renovation: February 2006, All suites with DSTV and telephone. Forest Lodge: The design at Forest Lodge is sophisticated and contemporary. Decorated with clear lines, large windows, rich textures and warm colours, the Lodge is perfect for honeymooners and nature lovers. Forest Lodge re-opened in October 2006, has 16 stylishly furnished suites with under floor heating, Bathrooms with outdoor showers, All suites with DSTV, telephone and Internet connection, No children under 12. All cottages have tea/coffee facilities, minibar, fruit basket,etc. Three-course dinners, specialising in seafood, are served in our circular restaurant as are large buffet breakfasts. Large swimming pool set within natural rock features and indigenous plants, Gift shop stocked with local arts & crafts, Telescopes for whale and bird-watching, Conference facilities, Research centre.
