FLYING SAFARIS A flying safari not only saves a considerable amount of time, but provides the traveller with the added benefit of viewing some of the most spectacular regions of Africa from an aerial perspective. Some parts of Africa are best accessed by light aircraft - in fact, many camps in the Okavango Delta in Botswana and the Namib Desert and Skeleton Coast in Namibia, can only be accessed by flying in to a safari lodge. The Okavango, Linyanti and Chobe camps in Botswana are accessed from either Maun or Kasane, while Windhoek is the main hub for Namibia charter flights. A flying safari is also becoming increasingly popular in South Africa, with daily scheduled flights direct from Johannesburg International Airport onto the bush strips of the private lodges around Kruger Park. Travellers can also air charter into the malaria free Madikwe and Waterberg reserves. In East Africa, air transfer by light aircraft is also widely used for travel between the main wildlife regions of Masai Mara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro. The most widely used aircraft on charter runs are the Cessna 206, 210 and the 208 Caravan, but twin engined Kingairs or Islanders, as well as a variety of small jets, are all available to travellers prepared to pay more for the experience or added speed. Aircraft all adhere to stringent safaty regulations and servicing, while the "bush pilots" are some of the most skilled aviators in the world. Our company work with a number of air charter operators, including Sefofane in Botswana, Namibia and South Africa, Nelair in the Kruger region of South Africa, and Pelican Air on the routes into Mozambique.
