On 1 October 1998, Elephant Plains Game Lodge started operating from the old Gomo Gomo Game Lodge in the Sabie Sand Game Reserve. Combining resources, landowner, Dr. Etienne Swart, and Deon Oosthuizen promise to provide a wildlife experience and stylish accommodation that is a cut above the rest. Over many years our strict conservation policies and successful wildlife management have resulted in a multitude of African game species to be found in this area. Here you will come face to face with Africa's famous Big Five - Elephant, Rhino, Buffalo, Lion and Leopard. Rare species such as the endangered wild dogs and cheetah are also seen regularly. The area is typical African savannah with a large variety of antelopes, birds and reptiles to be found.

Accommodation consists of:- 5 Rondavels, with en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, overhead fans, mini bars, tea/coffee facilities, mosquito nets and electronic safes. 6 exclusive open-plan glass fronted suites each with a lounge, double bedroom, en suite bathroom (inside/outside shower) and a private viewing deck that offers spectacular views over the riverbed. The Honeymoon Suite, a glass fronted suite, with all the regular luxuries boasting a private splash pool and sala, ideal for a mid-morning nap. There is a fully licensed bar, and in the heat of the day, the pool overlooking the plain brings welcome relief. Despite the comfort, Elephant Plains Game Lodge retains an atmosphere where camp tradition prevails - such as eating a superbly cooked dinner around a fire in the boma under the starry African sky. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet style in the open-sided lapa, which is the central focus of the Lodge. What makes Elephant Plains Game Lodge extra special is the dedicated staff. Your personal guides - an experienced game ranger and his local Shangaan tracker - are keen to share their knowledge and love of the African bush with you. The highlight of your visit is the thrill of close encounters with wildlife from the safety of open 4x4 vehicles. The bush walk after breakfast will open up a new world of smaller fauna and flora as well as the various uses of plants. During the afternoon game drive we stop at sunset for a sundowner, enjoying the sounds of awakening nocturnal nightlife. Then the search continues in the dark - with the help of powerful spotlights - revealing the mysteries of nocturnal animal behaviour. Special day trips can be arranged for guests staying more than 2 nights to any of the following destinations:- a) Cultural trip to a local Shangaan village, b) A world famous animal rehabilitation centre near Hoedspruit, c) The scenic Drakensberg escarpment, waterfalls and indigenous forests, and d) The Kruger National Park.
