| | The building of Deloraine was completed in 1922. Two-storied and constructed from a warm pinky-brown stone with a Mangalore tiled roof. Your hosts at this lodge are the owners, the Voorspuys. |

|
Deloraine is situated on the western side of the Great Rift Valley at Rongai, ten minutes off the main Nakuru-Kericho road, and is ideally situated for safaris coming from the east of the Rift Valley on their way to the Mara.

The gardens are magnificent, boasting a croquet lawn and tennis court. There are fourty or so horses on the farm and although some are used for safaris, there are always plenty of polo ponies to ride - the farm and the mountain providing more than adequate countryside to explore.

Deloraine House Facilities |
Now very much a family home, rather less grand than in the past (but almost certainly a great deal less stuffy), the house still welcomes travellers with open arms. Those for whom glossy five star hotels are not the last word in luxury will feel very much at home. Dogs snooze at your feet whilst you sit in the sun on the verandah, and children are always welcome. The grounds are gorgeously planted. The large double border overflows with incarvillea, agapanthus and day lilies, bougainvillea and sky-blue plumbago are planted against the house and huge tubs of succulents sit on the wide steps up to the verandah. A wonderful vegetable patch with fresh produce in serried rows is just like Mr. McGregor's garden. The rooms are charming. Three double rooms within the main house are decorated in colonial country house style, with a mixture of antique, new and well-loved pieces. A further three rooms in the guest cottage are also available. Meals at Deloraine are very flexible. Guests eat on the verandah or in the rather grand dining room but times are to the visitor's convenience and the food is based around the supremely fresh produce from the garden.

Deloraine House Additional Information |
The Voorspuys organize riding safaris and the fields near the house are full of their beautiful horses. For many, preferably those with some experience of horses, the excellent riding is the best way to experience the surrounding countryside. Game drives in the nearby Nakuru National Park and trips to Lake Bogoria are also easily arranged and both Voorspuys take guests on extremely informative guided walks.
