Victoria Falls from the Zambia side
AT Livingstone, the mighty Zambezi River plunges down in a mile-wide curtain of water to create one of the most glorious spectacles on earth - the "thundering smoke" of Victoria Falls.

This is Zambia's shared natural heritage with her neighbor, Zimbabwe and is the Seventh Wonder of the World. Little wonder the famous explorer and missionary, David Livingstone, exclaimed that "scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight".
Named after this Victorian adventurer, the town of Livingstone was once the capital of the country when the British ruled supreme in Africa. As such, it still has many fine Edwardian buildings and a special charm and hospitality, reminiscent of the gracious colonial era.
From Livingstone, the visitor can explore the banks of the Zambezi, walk through magnificent rain forests and absorb the breathtaking spectacle of Mosi-oa-Tunya, the African name for Victoria Falls which aptly translates as "the Smoke that Thunders".
Fine lodges and hotels cater to the visitor's every need, while adventure and adrenaline seekers can bungi jump off the Victoria Falls Bridge, whitewater raft down Batoka Gorge, abseil down a cliff or pursue a leisurely horseback trail or canoe safari on the quiet upper Zambezi. Don't forget to take a cruise at the ending of the day, when the sun sets over the Zambezi and the vast African sky becomes a palette of rich, intense colors; or celebrate life with a "Flight of Angels" by plane or microlight above the great falls.
Livingstone is best reached by scheduled flight to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, followed by a road transfer over the border.
There are flights to Vic Falls from Johannesburg, Harare, Maun and Windhoek. Livingstone is connected by air to the capital of Lusaka and to the wildlife havens of Kafue and Lower Zambezi National Park.
