Corner of Northern Zululand
IN a little corner of northern Zululand are some spectacular pans bordered by the hauntingly beautiful fever trees of Ndumo Game Reserve.

The pans, with names like Banzi and Shokwe, are home to a rich diversity of animals, birds and plants, as well as numerous crocodiles and hippos.
From the luxurious, but environmentally aware Ndumo Wilderness Camp, the visitor can enjoy one of the finest wilderness experiences in South Africa.
The entire camp is elevated and from the deck of the lounge overlooking the lily-covered pan, visitors can view a wide variety of birds, or watch the crocs as they eye the game which come down to drink.
Ndumo boasts an impressive bird list of 420 species, making it one of the country's top birding spots, and is home to 85 % of the birds of Maputaland.
Nearby Tembe Elephant Park is a sanctuary to what were South Africa's last free-ranging elephant herd, partly decimated by civil war and poachers in Mozambique. Today, the remaining elephant roam freely through the thick forests of Tembe.
