Surf, Sea and Indian Curry
SOUTH Africa's principal harbor city, Durban, has a history filled with romance and adventure, and is today a vibrant city with a colourful and cosmopolitan population.

The city makes an excellent starting point for a tour of Zululand and the nearby Drakenberg, while the picturesque Valley of a Thousand Hills is virtually on the doorstep of Durban.
Although some of the city's central beaches are famous for their fine bathing and surfing, most visitors prefer to stay at nearby, affluent Umhlanga Rocks, with its luxury hotels and fine bathing in the warm Indian Ocean.
Durban is home to a large portion of South Africa's Indian population, so the city also has some fine restaurants specializing in curries and Eastern fare. There is also a vibrant night life, and a healthy cultural and theatrical tradition.
Along Durban's beachfront, colourful ricksha pullers, resplendent in vibrant garb and wearing beaded cowhorn headgear, give visitors the ride of their life, while the downtown Oriental Plaza intoxicates the shopper with the scent of Eastern spices, and a dazzling array of artifacts and objects.
