Malaria Free with the Big 5
THE city of Port Elizabeth is the gateway to Settler Country - a frontier region which once saw numerous wars and clashes between English settlers and the Xhosa inhabitants.

A short drive north of Port Elizabeth is the malaria free safari destination of Addo Elephant Park, which is also home to buffalo and black rhino and many buck species, while nearby Shamwari Private Game Reserve provides an exclusive encounter with Africa and her creatures.
Addo is being expanded into a reserve which will eventually be one of the largest in South Africa. With the reintroduction of the Big Five to teh area and the opening of some fine lodges and camps, Addo is set to become a destination of choice for travelers concerned about malaria.
Port Elizabeth is linked by air to all South Africa's major cities, and thus makes an excellent starting point for a tour through the Garden Route to Cape Town.
The area can easily be done as a self drive safari and combined with other destinations on the Garden Route.
