These magnificent wildlife regions of Northern Botswana are the magnets that draw safari adventurers to this spectacular delta wilderness - one of the conservation jewels of the great African landscape.
Here, the visitor has the choice of the Okavango Delta, Moremi Game Reserve and Chobe National Park.
It's such a tough call, many travelers end up taking in all three regions of this great labyrinth of waterways, islands, forest and grassland!
With over 450 bird species recorded in this area, it's a great place for birders and twitchers, but no visitor leaves without having gained a knowledge and understanding of the great and magnificent feathered friends which populate the delta and its surrounding habitats.
However, wildlife is also abundant throughout the region, providing a true Big Five safari experience, with vast herd of elephant, buffalo and hippo making this fertile region their home, as well as numerous antelope, giraffe and zebra, followed by lion, leopard, cheetah and the stealthy crocodile.
The traveler wishing to venture to this most marvelous of African destinations, usually enters at Maun via charter or scheduled flight from Johannesburg, Victoria Falls or Windhoek. Kasane in the north east is linked by air to Maun and Vic Falls.
From there, the visitor is flown into one of the Okavango Delta safari lodges which provide the base for an intimate encounter with this region and its abundance of flora and fauna. Overland adventures throughout the parks are also available - complete with trained guides and camp helpers. Most lodges are situated in private reserves - concession areas within the Okavango complex.
