Searing Landscapes
IN a land where time stands still and the modern world and its cares are forgotten, in the shrouds of early morning mist, or the dramatic starry sky at night, the traveler may experience a sense of becoming one again with the earth.

Here in Damaraland, there are no fences, no boundaries in the vast, stony desert landscape. Endless vistas across stark plains, ancient valleys and brooding, distant mountains, bring the traveler as close to nature as is comfortably possible. Here, the plants and animals have evolved side by side with their environment over millennia and unusual geological features, a wealth of rock paintings and engravings, and populations of desert-adapted elephant and rhino, combine to form the unique attraction of Damaraland.
The mountain massif Brandberg (Burnt Mountain) is home to many prehistoric rock paintings, the most famous and enigmatic being the "White Lady" of Brandberg. There is also the Petrified Forest, where some antediluvian flood deposited 30m long treetrunks some 200 million years ago, and fossil remains at Doros Crater.
Travelers to Damaraland fly in by air charter and stay in luxury tents at one of the camps. Activities include nature walks, drives in 4 x 4 vehicles, star gazing and the sheer exhilaration and enjoyment of the vast panoramas and wide open spaces.
