Botswana's Capital City and Economic Hub
GABERONE is the capital city of Botswana, and can serve as one of the springboards for entry into the Mashatu Game Reserve or nearby Madikwe Game Reserve in neighbouring South Africa.

However, there is little of interest to offer the traveller within the sprawling town - originally designed in the sixties to accommodate a population of 20 000, but which today has over 200 000 inhabitants.
Gaberone does have some good hotels and a few lodges in small parks close to the city, but it is primarily a destination for business travelers.
Vacationers visiting Botswana's renowned wildlife areas of Okavango, Chobe, Moremi, Makgadikgadi and the Central Kalahari usually fly in to the town of Maun on the doorstep of the Okavango Delta, and from there by air charter to the wilderness areas. However, road and air transfers are available to Mashatu and Madikwe from Gaberone.
