Alphen is a national monument, a historic country manor house offering you much more than mere accommodation. It is the heart of a former wine estate at the gateway to the Constantia Valley and Wine Route. Kirstenbosch Gardens, internationally renowned as one of the world's foremost botanical gardens is a 5 minute drive from Alphen. Rondevlei Bird Sanctuary near Zeekoeivlei has an excellent variety of birds for those who love bird watching. Groot Constantia, 3 kms from Alphen, is a national monument and open to the public. It is the hallmark of gracious Cape Dutch architecture, originally owned by Governor Simon van der Stel and later by Hendrick Cloete, who was responsible for restoring the house to its present form and restoring the beautiful wine cellar.

The pub offers both a shady terrace under the oaks for hot summer days, as well as a huge log fire in the winter months. The Alphen has three conference venues in the Manor House.

Restaurants - Many well known restaurants, often in historic situations, can be found in the area. The Constantia Health & Racquet Club is situated on part of the old Alphen Estate. The Constantia Village Shopping Centre is 5 minutes away. Beaches are just a short drive away, where sometimes whales can be seen. Major championship golf courses are close by, including Steenberg, Royal Cape, Westlake and Clovelly Country Club. There are hiking trails from the estate, as well as spectacular drives and scenic cycling routes in the area. Constantia Wine Route is also on your doorstep, incorporating Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia, Buitenverwachting, Constantia Uitsig and Steenberg farms.
