WHAT IS A SAFARI?"

Safari is the Swahili name for "journey" and the word is synonymous with adventure and discovery of wildlife and habitats of Africa.

An African safari can be undertaken in many ways - from self driving a 4x4 to luxury fly-in African safaris. Essentially, however, there are three basic categories - lodge safari, permanent tented safari and mobile safari, while the journey can have many themes - honeymoon, canoeing, elephant back, horse back, Big Five etc...

A typical safari lasts between 10 to 21 days, including the 2-3 days required for international flights to and from the initial safari destination.

Cost is influenced by where you stay, duration of stay, when you go and what you do.

PLANNING THE TRIP & GETTING THE BEST DEAL

Unlike travel to many other destinations, Africa requires input from an experienced safari specialist, especially a local African operator.

Non-Africa based safari agents are often not familiar with local etiquette and conditions and are more geared to broke or sell trips. We are involved with the logistics from planning to the actual operation. You will have someone to contact while traveling and are never alone.

We strongly advise against putting together an itinerary yourself through browsing the web. For most people, an African safari is one of the most expensive holidays they will take, so it pays to seek the expertise of a seasoned professional - and there is no charge for our time and advice!

ALL INCLUSIVE SAFARIS

The most important thing is to make sure that all the essential things associated with the trip are included in the quoted price: ground transportation, accommodation, meals, excursions, guide/driver service and transfers. Some operators tend to confuse the issue with a very low up-front quote for a bare-bones trip, which ends up costing a lot more once all the 'extras' are added in.
