Mobile African safaris can be divided into two distinct types of travel: Luxury Mobile Camping Safaris are geared more to affluent travelers and Adventure Overland Tours attracts mostly young travelers. Both types are described below.

These are safaris which usually explore the more remote regions, such as South Luangwa in Zambia and parts of the Okavango in Botswana. Participants usually do not have to assist in any camp chores, such as cooking, cleaning, setting and strking camp. There are staff available to do these jobs, giving participants maximum time to enjoy a unique safari experience. Tents are either dome type or larger. Meals are enjoyed communally around a well set table and chairs. Local beverages and spirits are included in the cost. Participants are usually more affluent travellers and many have already experienced other types of safaris. Usually, the only extras you will pay for are tips, souvenirs and items of a personal nature. These are large group adventure tours, appealing mainly to young travellers on a tight budget, who want to experience a great journey with similar minded individuals. Travel is by overland safari truck and camping is usually in official sites, with good ablution facilities and other amenities. Dome tents are provided, but participants must erect their own and participate in other chores, such as cleaning and cooking. Besides the reasonable cost of these safaris, the traveller also pays into a local kitty at the start of the trip - this averages US$ 20 per person per day and covers food and most entrance fees etc. These safaris vary between seven days around a local safari region to a 56 day Nairobi to Cape Town grand safari adventure. The extras you will pay for are the Food and Entrance Fee Kitty as well as tips, souvenirs and items of a personal nature.
