Here, a private nature reserve has been established as a refuge for the desert elephants. Other animals include mountain zebra, klipspringer, oryx - master of the desert - and the regal greater kudu; 175 bird species of which 10 are endemic. The Huab Conservation Trust is active in rehabilitating the land and in bringing back life which naturally belongs there. While desert elephants still roam freely their right to live and particularly their habitat need protection from ever-expanding human activities. The area is not recorded as being malarial.

Decorated with an African touch, eight bungalows (16 double beds) under thatch provide very comfortable and spacious accommodation. Shower with a view, two basins, separate loo, two extra length double beds, 24 hour 220V solar electricity, coffee & tea, and a verandah overlooking the mostly dry Huab River. Local cuisine and an unusual variety of South African wines are served in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
