▼ ATTRACTIONS
The main focus at Chikwenya is the broody Zambezi River and its floodplain, Chikwenya Island and the wonderful wildlife which lives in this area. It is a photographer's paradise as tall attractive albida trees dot the open floodplain with the mountains of The Rift Valley providing the backdrop. The seeds from the albida are rich in nutrients and they drop in the dry winter months when the animals need the nutrition the most. The area is renown for its large numbers of elephant, buffalo, hippo, crocodiles and eland which concentrate along the river when the water holes dry up. Buffalo graze along the rivers edges and elephant love the albida forests. Leopard are common, although they are not seen as often as Lion. Birdlife is superb and many species are found here. The Angola Pitta is a birder's top prize; they nest in the area in December. Shelley's Sunbird, Narina Trogon, Livingstone Flycatcher and Western Banded Snake Eagle are some of the summer birding specials.

▼ FACILITIES
The camp has 18 beds, in 9 superb tented rooms with en suite facilities, as well as either an outdoor shower or bath "under the stars". Each room has a panoramic view onto the floodplains of the Zambezi. One can lie in bed and watch Elephant and Buffalo stroll past your room. There is a pub and lounge under thatch. Breakfasts are enjoyed outdoors under the shade of an enormous mahogany tree and dinners are often on the deck under the stars. There is a pool as well. The camp is open all year round.
