Sabi Sabi’s philosophy is based on two principles. The first is the need to conserve our rapidly dwindling wilderness areas and to provide a sanctuary for fauna and flora as part of our heritage. The second is the belief that the only way a wildlife sanctuary can survive the onslaught of socio-economic pressures is by employing labour, earning foreign currency, paying tax and promoting sustainable tourism. Failure to do so would inevitably make it ‘available land’ for agriculture or commercial development.

Each air conditioned thatched chalet and suite features exquisite ethnic décor in keeping with the bushveld environment. The lodge features artistically designed open courtyard with spectacular wooden carvings by renowned South Africa sculptors, created from wood salvaged from the Bushveld.

As dawn lightens the horizon, a knock on your door awakens you to a new bushveld day. After coffee and snacks on the safari patio, your personal ranger escorts you to his four-wheel drive open Land Rover and heads off into the reserve. Sabi Sabi’s professional rangers are renowned as being the most expert and well trained in the industry. They remain in constant radio contact, giving all guests the best possible opportunity of locating Africa’s big game. You will be enthralled by the magic and absorb the peace of the bush. Every sound becomes relevant, every movement captures your attention. Not even your Shangaan tracker, who can read the bushveld like a book and is an expert in tracking and bushcraft, knows what lies in store. Later in the morning, after a sumptuous South African breakfast, you can watch animals coming to drink and admire the prolific variety of birds from one of the many hides overlooking waterholes or built into tall Sycamore Fig trees along the banks of the Sabi River. For the more energetic, there is the option of an environmental awareness walking trail.
