Huge towering dunes, said to be the highest in the world, rise dramatically over 1000 feet above the surrounding plains at Sossusvlei. The spectacle of changing colours and the lonely Oryx silhouetted against red dunes is one which visitors and photographers from around the world come to savour and capture on film.

The Camp has been built near the top of a mountain, out of brick, rock, timber and thatch. There are only six luxury tents, each with its own private plunge pool. The rooms are superbly appointed and offer comfort and atmosphere with en suite bathrooms. The main living area is under thatch with an outdoor deck where guests enjoy dinner under the stars. The Namib is considered by many to be one of the finest star-gazing areas.

Early morning excursions in 4x4 vehicles the the magnificent Sossusvlei dunes and the "vlei" itself at the end of the Tsauchab River ~ a dry riverbed that flows only in years of exceptional rainfall. Depending on the seasonal temperature, breakfast is served under the spreading camelthorn acacias in Sossusvlei, before returning to camp at midday. Afternoon and evening activities are on the private reserve ~ exploring the desert landscape and its unique flora and fauna. The game we see is dramatised by the contrast between the desert and animals like Springbok, Gemsbok (Oryx), and Ostrich who manage to survive in these harsh conditions. Guests may see Bat-eared Fox, Cape Fox, Brown or Spotted Hyena and Aardwolf on night drives. Incredible ballooning safaris over the Namib are optional and at an additional cost. For guests on a three night stay, a spectacular excursion is offered to the rock pools of the Namib Naukluft Park. Here guests also have the opportunity to view Hartmann's Mountain Zebra. ▼ VIEW OUR CURRENT SPECIAL ON KULALA WILDERNESS CAMP: NAMIBIA - Wilderness Safaris - Southern African Resident Special
